You do plan your career – the desire to have a baby of your own should also be planned – well in time! One in eight couples in the Western world remains unintentionally childless. This means they are having unprotected intercourse for more than a year without achieving pregnancy. From the age of 35 years the chance of natural conception decreases dramatically. At the same time the probability of miscarriages increases. For women over 35 experiencing difficulties with achieving pregnancy, it is recommended to seek advice from a medical specialist already after half a year, for women until 35 such an inquiry is recommended after one year of unintended childlessness. Fertility centers offering a variety of treatments (hormonal treatment, IVF, ICSI) may help you to get pregnant. However, whatever treatment may be performed, the woman’s age is a limiting factor. From 39 to 40 years the chances to achieve pregnancy even by ‘IVF treatment’ (IVF/ICSI, etc.) decrease, however, the pregnancy rates are still remarkably higher than those achieved by artificial insemination resp. sexual intercourse at the optimal moment.
